Back on the bike

Having managed to reunite it with my helmet I was back on my bike today.

Coming home I was stopped on Broadway at the red light at the corner with Khyber Pass  when this idiot on a bike whizzed straight past me at maybe 30km/h straight into the turning traffic from Khyber Pass. How he avoided being hit eludes me. Idiots like him are too stupid to ride push bikes in public and should stick to driving cars.

Much later Tessa stopped by for dinner and just as she was leaving I saw some bright flashing lights in building's carpark. Thinking it was some kind of emergency I stuck my head out the door to see what was going on. It was just my neighbour, he's taken to riding his bike to work at the hospital for the exercise and had just come off shift. It was his helmet light and bike tail lights, both flashing away like crazy.

The lights may be crazy, but neither of us are. Done properly, cycling is actually fairly safe and for every lunatic rider like the idiot at the traffic lights, there's probably a couple of dozen safe riders like my neighbour and myself. Unfortunately the idiots  are the ones that give us all a bad reputation.
